8. 8 India GEF Project: Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy in Selected Micro SME Clusters Programmatic Framework for Energy Efficiency Cluster project in 9 energy intensive subsectors: foundry, sponge iron, textiles, electroplating, brick kilns, ceramics, glassware, cement plants, paper industry Example: pilot project in the ceramics industry (2006-2010) 100 walk through audits identified significant Energy saving potentials Savings potential in Morbi SME cluster: 6.6 PJ (15%) / 0.44 Mt CO 2 Recommendations implemented: reduced excess air, waste heat recovery, proper drying green wares, variable frequency drives Project scale: 7.2 M U$S GEF + 26 M U$S co financing Significant replication & carbon reduction potential Potential for project replication could be eligible for programmatic CDM modality
