What does CELDT stand for? CALIFORNIA ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT TEST

When do you take the CELDT? In September every school year When you first enter a school district in California

Why do you take the CELDT? Helps the school figure out who needs extra support in English Helps the school, your teacher and you know your skills in English Shows the state, your school, teacher, you and your family your progress (growth) in English Is used as one way to reclassify you to regular English classes

Speaking (one-on-one) Asking questions about certain topics Explaining your reasons (always give 2!) Retelling a story from 4 pictures What does the CELDT look like?

There are four parts of the CELDT: Listening (group testing) Following oral directions Pointing to or marking objects in the test What does the CELDT look like?

Reading Comprehension (group testing) Reading a story and answering questions Answering multiple choice questions What does the CELDT look like?

Writing (group testing) Writing section with one- sentence and paragraph answers Answering multiple choice questions about grammar and sentence structure

How to Get Redesignated Students with 4 or 5 on the CELDT are Re-designated to Regular Language Arts when their CST scaled scores are: 7 th grade 325+ 8 th grade 300+

How to increase your scores Work hard in all your academic classes Learn lots and lots of new vocabulary Read and listen to English at home Continue to speak, read and write in your native language (your skills will transfer!) Make friends with English-speaking students to practice your English Try your best on the CELDT and on the CSTs
