Aerobus Safety & Security Proactive Measures to assure Aerobus passenger and system Safety & Security

Inherent Safety of the Aerobus System The Aerobus mass transit system is an inherently safe passenger system. It operates overhead and has no direct interference with ground level vehicular or pedestrian traffic. The system operates on electrical drive motors and produces no noise or emissions. The system can be operated in fully automatic or driver control mode. Even with a driver, the system PLC avoids collisions and vehicle over speed situations.

Safety Considerations Safety –Design for Safety –Plan for Safety –Stranded Vehicle Recovery –Passenger Evacuation –Station Safety

Design for Safety –Compliance with International Codes & Standards –Environmental considerations are part of the design –Limited acceleration & deceleration forces –Provision of stanchions and hand rails in the vehicles –Use of fire retardant materials –All potential fire sources are located outside of the passenger compartment –Adequate lighting provided in the vehicles –Each Vehicle has an installed public address system

Plan for Safety –Establish Safety Management Plan –Safety training of all Employees –Regular safety drills –Use of clear Safety signage and well marked evacuation routes –Regular inspection and maintenance of vehicles to assure that equipment is operable and safe

Stranded Vehicle Recovery Aerobus has designed a Maintenance & Recovery vehicle which is self-propelled and can push or tow any stranded passenger vehicle to the next station. This vehicle is also used to inspect and maintain the track system.

Passenger Evacuation The Aerobus vehicles are designed with passenger evacuation facilities in place. This includes the following provisions –Transfer of passengers to a backup vehicle –Installed evacuation chute / rope system

Station Safety Safe access to Aerobus vehicles Barriers to prevent passengers from being struck by moving vehicles Loading Platform area well illuminated Public address system for communications with passengers and staff Station exits well marked First aid stations in each passenger station Installed fire fighting equipment in each station

Security Considerations Security –Design for Security –Plan for Security –Threat identification –Prevention

Design for Security –Install video monitoring equipment –Visible security personnel in stations and trains –Controlled access to loading platform area –Passenger screening devices can be installed –No areas in passenger vehicles where packages or devices can be hidden –No direct access to driver’s cabin –Trash receptacles in stations are explosion resistant

Plan for Security Develop a Security & Emergency Response Plan Background checks on all employees and contractors Periodic drug screening for employees and contractors Controlled access to critical areas & equipment

Threat Identification Explosive or Incendiary Threats Chemical / Biological Threats Hostile Individual Threats

Prevention Establish an alert system Coordinate with public safety agencies, fire departments and police Continuously monitor vehicles and platforms Daily inspection of stations and vehicles prior to use. Use of station and vehicle public address systems to notify passengers and staff of emergency conditions and provide instructions.
