1944 The 1944 Education Act (aka The Butler Act) Education for all Secondary schools were made free for all School leaving age was raised to 15 Introduction of the 11+ Tripartite System

1965 Labour Government LEAs had to reorganise most schools Equality of opportunity Comprehensive Schools Universal

1976 Labour Government Education and Industry in decline Schools were not teaching the skills needed for work Governments (since ‘76) have sought to link school and work Vocationalism
