Georgia the early years :
Was born on November 15, 1887 She was the 2nd of 7 seven children She grew up on a farm in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin She received art lessons at home

High School & College She graduated from High School in 1905 and decided that she wanted to be an artist She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago & the Art Students League of New York

She taught art in Amarillo, Texas at a public school
In 1916 she met Alfred Stieglitz, an internationally known photographer & art impresario Al & Georgia were married in 1924

Al & Georgia lived in New York but she often spent summers painting in New Mexico
Al helped showcase Georgia’s growing collection of work in annual exhibitions

Al died in 1946 and 3 years later Georgia moved to New Mexico to live and paint
Her house was called the Ghost Ranch house She continued painting, working in pencil, watercolor and clay until 1984 Georgia died in 1986 at the age of 98

Georgia’s Style In her early work – her style was a type of realism
The goal was the expression of the artist’s personal ideas and feelings and that the subject matter was best realized through harmonious arrangements of line, color, and notan (the Japanese system of lights and darks)
