Dorian Gray was a young and good -looking man. His life changed when his friend Basil Hallward, an artist, gave him a portrait of himself which portrayed Dorian in all his youth and beauty. At Basil’s house Dorian knew Lord Henry Wotton. He influenced the young men with his clever words. Dorian began to feel strange. He start to considered his youth very important, feeling envy toward the picture, eternally beautiful and young. Therefore the young men drew up a kind of “agreement with the devil”. Dorian will always remain young and beautiful while the portrait will show the again and it will be the mirror of his soul. Dorian had a tormented love story with a theatre actress called Sybil Vane. It ended with the suicide of the woman. Because of this event, Dorian discovered that his picture changed its look every time he committed something bad. He decided to hide the portrait in the attic. He spent his life enjoying it. Only Basil knew the existence of the picture. Then he was murdered by Dorian since he was considered the cause of his harms. Sometimes Dorian went secretly in the attic to check the portrait which grew old day by day. He was satisfied for his eternal youth and scared at the same time. Until one day Dorian understood the troubles caused by the picture and decided to destroy it. His servants found the old body of their master at the foot of the painting.
