2 Art Instructors Mrs. Colleen Grigg Mrs. Lisa Molitor Kindergarten ”Growing with Art” The goal of kindergarten art classes is to help the children reach some similar levels. Students are taught how to use various mediums and tools with some success, such as handling a pair of scissors, gluing and using a paintbrush correctly. The children study the elements of art such as line, shape, and color, and begin to apply them in their works of art. Kindergarten art classes meet once a week for 30 minutes. 1 st Grade ”The Basic Shape of Things” Art classes for first grade meet for sixty minutes once a week. This allows for a great deal of instruction and retention. Some of the units that the students may study include self-portraits, animals, nature, and insects. The elements of art are incorporated into each project. Various art mediums are experienced which include pencil, crayon, paint, pastels, clay, and printmaking. Creativity and craftsmanship are emphasized as well as the proper use of materials.

3 Art 3 rd Grade “Lifestyles Past and Present” Third grade art classes have an emphasis on communities as well as artists past and present. The students will experience clay building which includes the correct application of glaze. There is a color theory unit with the study of primary, secondary, complementary, warm and cool colors. The students are expected to apply this knowledge to their work. New materials, artists, and techniques are introduced, as well as the elements and principles of art. Creativity and good craftsmanship are encouraged. The students meet for an hour once a week for art instruction. 2 nd Grade “Our Lives Through Art” The second grade students focus on building upon the skills that they learned in first grade, as well as learning new and exciting concepts. They will create projects using many different art supplies such as tempera paint, crayons, colored pencils, markers, and watercolors. Some of the project themes may include artists throughout time, weaving, animals, flowers, and self-portraits. Color theory will be explored as well the elements of design. The second graders attend art once a week for an hour.

4 Art 4 th Grade “All About Me” Art as a discipline is the focus this year. Students will be introduced to contour drawing. The purpose of this unit is to encourage better observation and concentration which will result in improved drawing skills. The fourth graders will create a clay piece which correlates to their classroom’s study of the prairie. The term value study is introduced. This is a technique that will allow the students’ work to take on a more three-dimensional appearance. Different mediums and techniques are expanded to possibly include clay, wood, printmaking, weaving, pencils, and paint. Craftsmanship and creativity are expected. The fourth grade students have art for an hour once a week. 5 th Grade “Making Connections” In fifth grade, the students study the elements and principles of design in greater depth. They continue exploring contour drawing, which will help them to achieve a more realistic representation of the object they are observing. The students will study various artists and will be able to identify and recognize famous works of art and styles. Various art mediums and concepts which may be explored include one-point perspective drawing, collage, painting, textiles, jewelry, and sculpture. The fifth grade students have art once a week for one hour.

5 Computers with Mrs. Payton First and second graders meet once a week for thirty minutes. Third, Fourth and Fifth grade meet once a week for one hour. Students will learn about internet safety and are introduced to applications that will be valuable educational tools.

6 Computer Curriculum First and Second Grade *Identify and appropriately use various parts of the computer. *Creation of simple multimedia reports/stories. *Introduction to Konnect and how to access their home directory. Third Grade *Further develop word processing skills and file management. *Simple spreadsheet and graphing. *Use the internet for research and information and learn to analyze that information for accuracy

7 Fourth Grade *Keyboard instruction and practice. *Formatting of papers and files. *Creation of more advanced multimedia projects. *Navigation of online resources. Fifth Grade *Mastery of basic keyboarding skills. *Application of online resources. *Introduction to online posting using a secure site. *Designing and completing creative multimedia projects. 11 Kindergarten students have music class once a week for 30 minutes. 1 st through 5 th grade students have music class twice a week for 30 minutes each class. Mrs. Nelson and Miss Plattos

Clicking on it will show current checkouts.
