Chapter 14 - ISPs and Network Connections Most Individuals Choose Dial-Up Access [requires modems] –Using the conventional telephone system to access the Internet is extremely popular because it is the least expensive access technology. The Important Concept of Continuous Connectivity (Dedicated Circuit) –Usually higher-speed than dial-up –Instantaneous access and continous availablity (necessary for a website to be available 24/7) Instantaneous Access Changes Use –A dedicated Internet connection that provides instantaneous access 24/7 changes the way an individual views the Internet because it encourages frequent and casual use.
