Health indicators Over 1.5 million people are HIV positive of which 0.9 million have full blown AIDS. The majority of those who are affected with HIV/AIDS disease in Uganda unfortunately are within the bracket of 15 to 40 years, which is where the majority of the labor force come from. Women form the majority of people affected by HIV. The prevalence of HIV has gone down from 30% in 1990 to 9% in 1999 and 6.5% in 2003 due to ABC approach by Government.

Medical Services The Doctor- Patient ratio 1:18,700 Total Health work force 18,102 Medical specialists 269 57 State hospitals, 44 NGO hospitals and 5 private hospitals (most of which are poor equipped or not equipped at all). Only 49% of households in Uganda have access to health care facilities
