Observations Observation consists of receiving knowledge of the outside world through our senses, or recording information using scientific tools and instruments.

Qualitative Observations
Overview: Deals with descriptions. Data can be observed but not measured. Qualitative → Quality Examples Colors, textures, smells, tastes, appearance, beauty, etc.

Quantitative Overview: Deals with numbers. Data which can be measured. Quantitative → Quantity Examples: Length, height, area, volume, weight, speed, time, temperature, humidity, sound levels, cost, members, ages, etc.

Elephant Toothpaste Procedures
Measure 125 mL of warm water Mix ½ oz of dry yeast Add drops of food color In a graduated cylinder, measure 20 mL of Hydrogen Peroxide Add a dash of dish soap Add yeast mixture to graduated cylinder
