Days Of Elijah THE GOSPEL IN SONG
2
Shortcoming Of Modern Praise Songs? Rather shallow, doctrinally speaking Lacking in real teaching opportunities. Often repetitive and overly simplistic. Today’s selection is better. Yet a bit obscure. Thankful for the author’s explanation.
3
How would you characterize the world today? Wonderful? Troubled? Scary? Exciting? Other? What should Christians think?

1. These are the days of Elijah declaring the Word of the Lord; And these are the days of Your servant, Moses, righteousness being restored. And though these are days of great trials, of famine and darkness and sword; Still we are the voice in the desert, crying, "Prepare ye the way of the Lord." 1 – Days of Elijah Words & Music: Robin Mark / Arr.: Robin L. 2. These are the days of Ezekiel, the dry bones becoming as flesh; And these are the days of Your servant, David, rebuilding a temple of praise. And these are the days of the harvest, the fields are as white in Your world, And we are the laborers in Your vineyard declaring the Word of the Lord. 2 – Days of Elijah © 2004 The Paperless Hymnal™ Words & Music: Robin Mark / Arr.: Robin L. The Days Of Elijah (Speaking Truth) They were days of utter wickedness 1 Kings 18:4 – “… for when Jezebel destroyed the prophets of the Lord, Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave, and provided them with bread and water.
17
Days of worshiping idols 1 Kings 18:17-19 Ahab and Jezebel vs. Elijah “…you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord… …followed the Baals. 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah sharing meals at Jezebel’s table.
18
Preaching Truth in Dangerous Places 1 Kings 18:21 – “Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people did not answer him a word.” No indication they were opposed to Baal worship. Elijah is standing against them and their idolatry.
19
Victory At Carmel 1 Kings 18:40 – “Then Elijah said to them, ‘Seize the prophets of Baal; do not let one of them escape.’ So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.”
20
Days Of Moses (Righteousness) Days of divided loyalty to God Exodus 32:1-4 Moses receiving the law. People get tired of waiting and demand a golden idol calf. Aaron provides. “This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”
21
God’s Offer (Tempting?) Exodus 32:9-10 – “The Lord said to Moses, ‘I have seen this people, and behold, they are an obstinate people. Now then let Me alone, that My anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them; and I will make of you a great nation.”
22
Moses’ Righteous Indignation Exodus 32:19-20 -- It came about, as soon as Moses came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing; and Moses’ anger burned, and he threw the tablets from his hands and shattered them at the foot of the mountain. He took the calf which they had made and burned it with fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it over the surface of the water and made the sons of Israel drink it.
23
Call To Righteousness Deuteronomy 6:24-25 -- So the L ORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the L ORD our God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today. It will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all this commandment before the L ORD our God, just as He commanded us.
24
Days Of Ezekiel (Renewal) Valley of dry bones Ezekiel 37:1-10 Very many very dry bones. “Prophesy over these bones and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord….’ “…So I prophesied…and the breath came into them, and they came to life….”
25
New life for broken people Ezek. 37:11-14 Bones represented Israel So far from God they were like dry skeletons in the desert. God would open their “graves” Promised to put His Spirit inside them. “Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,’ declares the Lord.’”
26
The Days of David (Praise Restored) From tabernacle to temple David’s Tent? 2 Chronicles 1:1-6 THE tabernacle was at Gibeon “…which Moses the servant of the Lord had made in the wilderness.”
27
1 Chronicles 15:1 Now David built houses for himself in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it. 1 Chronicles 16:37 – “So he left Asaph and his relatives there before the ark of the covenant of the Lord to minister before the ark continuously…”
28
Pertained To Universal Salvation Amos 9:1 – “In that day I will raise up the fallen booth of David, and wall up its breaches; I will also raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old….” Acts 15:16-17 --‘A FTER THESE THINGS I will return, A ND I WILL REBUILD THE TABERNACLE OF D AVID WHICH HAS FALLEN, A ND I WILL REBUILD ITS RUINS, A ND I WILL RESTORE IT, SO THAT THE REST OF THE MANKIND MAY SEEK THE LORD….
29
The Days of the Church of Christ Days of harvest John 4:35 -- Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.
30
Declare The Word Of The Lord Go preach! Romans 10:14-15 -- How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “H OW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS !”
31
