Where the poem is set? What characters are introduced in the poem? What has happened in the poem?
4
Task In groups of 5/6 create a mime of the accident with each character saying the appropriate lines. You should have a narrator to read the rest of the poem. You will then present your work to the rest of the class who will evaluate it.
5
Homework Task Complete the following self evaluation:
What character were you in the performance? What do you think you did well? What could you do to improve your performance for next time?

A Day in the Life Task For this task you will work in groups of 4/5.
Your teacher will give you a character from the poem. In your groups create a 5 minute improvisation showing what your character was doing on the afternoon of the accident. You should use the information you gathered for your presentations to help you. You will present these to the rest of the class who will give your feedback.
11
Task As a whole class you will now build up a freeze frame of the accident. Each member of the class will then share what their character’s is thinking; this is called Thoughts in the Head.
12
Homework Task Write a diary entry as the character you were in the freeze frame. You should describe their thoughts and feelings about the accident.
13
Monologues A monologue is when a character speaks their thoughts and feelings aloud.
You will now create a monologue by reading your diary entry aloud in character. You will present these to the class for evaluation.
14
Self Evaluation Below write a self evaluation for your monologue. You should write two stars (things you did well) and one wish (something you could do to improve in future.

Road Safety Accident’s like Hughie’s still happen now. The facts:
Young people aged between 11 and 16 are more at risk of being killed or seriously injured as a pedestrian or cyclist in a road accident than other age groups. 1,844 12 to 16-year-olds were killed or seriously injured as pedestrians, cyclists and car occupants in 2007. Traffic is the biggest cause of accidental death of 12 to 16-year-olds. Almost 1 in 5 teenagers report having been involved in a road accident or "near miss" on their way home from school. But only 4 per cent said that road safety was their main concern.
16
Task Your teacher will show you some recent road safety campaigns. In groups discuss what you think make a good advert. You should create a spider diagram showing what you think makes an effective advert.
17
Mise-en-scene Target Audience Slogan Message
When creating an effective advert you must consider the following, you should discuss these as a class and then write down the meaning of each word: Mise-en-scene Target Audience Slogan Message Everything that appears before the camera and its arrangement - composition, sets, props, actors, costumes, and lighting. The intended group for which something is performed or marketed; the specific group to which advertising is directed. A distinctive phrase, or motto of any party, group, manufacturer, or person; catchword or catch phrase. The point, moral, or meaning of a gesture, utterance, novel, motion picture, etc.
18
Task In groups of 4/5 create an advert for a Road Safety campaign. Make sure you think about all of the elements listed in the previous slide. You should include everyone in your group equally. You should try to include all of the Theatre Arts in your performance.
19
Evaluation of Others Choose another groups’ advert:
Describe what happened in their advert. Do you think the advert was effective and why? What could they do to improve the effectiveness of their advert?
20
End of Unit Assessment Writing In Role
Write in role as Hughie from Black Friday explaining what happened leading up to and ending with the accident. Make sure you include his thoughts and feelings. This should be a whole A4 page. If you finish early you should create a poster version of your road safety advert.
21
Last Lesson In this lesson you will get your marks back and receive feedback from your teacher. During this time the rest of the class should either be creating or finishing their road safety poster.
