2 Mattress Collection & Recycling Project Australians send over 1.25 million mattresses to landfill every year with the average person disposing of a mattress every 8-10 years. Mattresses are one of the most common items put out during Council verge Collections and almost all go to landfill. Tender process – Scope of requirements Contract Management-KPI’s Activity reporting-12 months Summary of benefits

3 Scope of requirements Key stakeholders from each Council provided input to the process. Included clear product definitions: Including; tops, bases and futons, definition-8 product types Included 5 different collection methods to ensure all participating Council needs were met. ;

4 Scope: Other key elements Social responsibility clauses Minimum response times for each service type. Recycling targets Specific Reporting requirements

5 Contract Management: Key Performance indicators Still finalising the contract management plans however initial targets include; – 24 hour response times for ad hoc collections and 48 Hours for most other service types – Recycling targets of 95% – Detailed monthly reporting by Council – All trucks to be fitted with GPS –Customer access to movement of vehicles – Creating additional employment opportunities for people who are socially disadvantaged-targets still to be determined.

8 General Comments-Summary of benefits Great triple bottom line outcome for Councils. – Economical: Annualised savings of $140k (16%) when compared to landfill costs – Environmental: Minimise waste to landfill through recycling 30,000 mattresses processed -1,143 tonnes saved. – Social: Creating additional employment opportunities for people who are socially disadvantaged (numbers to be confirmed)
