Work Habits and the Ontario Skills Passport Welcome to this presentation on Work Habits and the Ontario Skills Passport.

Ontario Skills Passport (OSP)
The Ontario Skills Passport (OSP) is a FREE bilingual web-based tool. It offers clear descriptions of Essential Skills as well as work habits that are used in work, learning and life. The OSP has also developed a number of tools and resources that learners and job seekers can use to assess, build, document and track their skills and transfer them to further education, training, the workplace and everyday life.

This is the Welcome page of the OSP website. The goal of this training module is to introduce you to work habits using the tools and resources on the OSP website. There is a separate module that introduces you to Essential Skills.

Work Habits in the OSP Working Safely Initiative
Teamwork Self-advocacy Reliability Customer Service Organization Entrepreneurship Working Independently The OSP includes the following work habits considered important for success in work, learning and life. Each work habit has a specific Icon which is used throughout the OSP Website. You can go to the Skills in the OSP section and click on Work Habits to view descriptions of each work habit. Click on Videos of Essential Skills and Work Habits in Action to view short video clips for each work habit. The OSP has a work, learning and life database that has sample tasks for each of the Work Habits listed above. Let’s take a closer look at each Work Habit in this list.

OSP Work Habits Each work habit has performance indicators
There are no skill levels associated with work habits. Each work habit has performance indicators. So, if you are asked questions like “What does it mean to be a reliable person?” or “What does taking initiative mean to you?” you can use the performance indicators to help you describe what each work habit means and start to think of ways you have demonstrated good work habits in work, learning and life. If you are familiar with the Essential Skills, then you know that they have skill levels. Please note that work habits do not have skill levels.

Working Safely Working in a manner that prevents injury to self and others Reporting unsafe conditions Participating in health and safety training, as required Using and wearing all required protective equipment and devices Here are the performance indicators for Working Safely. Note: Each Work Habit icon has been hyperlinked to the specific video for your ease of use; however, it is recommended that you review these videos to decide which ones would be most appropriate for your audience.

Working Safely Work I report unsafe working conditions to my supervisor. Learning I know the WHMIS symbols and what they stand for. Life I regularly replace the batteries in my smoke detectors at home. Sample work, learning and life tasks are available on the Ontario Skills Passport website for each work habit.
