 Effective for 2010 summer visits  New HW-17 Standard WILL read: Does the camp have access to an automated electronic defibrillator (AED) available to the majority of the camp population, within the timeframes recommended by authoritative sources, and managed by trained personnel. The AED may be located on the camp property or available through another provider. © 2009 American Camping Association Inc.7

 Mandatory Standard HR-4A calls for an annual check of the National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW) and a signed voluntary disclosure statement for all staff.  Check of the NSOPW (formerly the NSOPR) for staff.  Can be conducted by written verification for each staff member at www.nsopw.gov orwww.nsopw.gov  Can ALSO be met by written verification that a check of the sex offender registries in ALL 50 states has been completed for each staff member (new for 2010). © 2009 American Camping Association Inc.8

 Does the camp have written evidence of a system in practice to verify, at least on an annual basis, that accreditation standards are being followed in applicable aspects of the camp’s operation?  This standard was easily DNA’d the first cycle through these standards  Camps need MORE than proof of their Annual Statement of Compliance to meet the intent of this standard © 2009 American Camping Association Inc.9

 WDPs are EXPECTED as part of all visits beginning in 2010.  WDP to be completed before the visit; preferably in the spring.  WDP can be done in person, electronically, or by some other method.  Standards are not scored on the score form during the WDP; a checklist is used.  Our own statistics confirm that camps that participate in a WDP before camp begins have successful accreditation visits. 10© 2009 American Camping Association Inc.

Yes, you!  All camps being visited need a Standards Update, at a minimum. (NSC)  All Visitors must take a Visitor Update to be eligible for 2010 visits. © 2009 American Camping Association Inc.11
