2 Why Use the iPod Touch ?  Smaller & more “mobile” than a desktop or laptop  Has a “cool” factor & can be very motivating  Can be individualized for individual student needs  Useful for differentiated instruction strategies  Pairs audio with visual

5 Our students already KNOW how to use technology, or they are very willing to LEARN the use of knew technologies in the classroom.

6 To Begin Using iPod Touch, You Must: Have iTunes downloaded on your computer Create an iTunes Account Download Apps to iTunes Sync Apps to your iPod Touch

7 Set up iTunes Account with NO Credit Card 1Launch the App Store in iTunes 2Find and select a free app you want to download 3Click on “Free App” to download 4Click on “Create a New Account” 5Click on “Continue” and create a new account as per directions 6You will soon see a Payment Options Menu – Select “None” 7Verify the newly created account with the email address provided in the setup

8 Volume Purchasing Apps You can purchase apps for your iPod touch, but understand that you must purchase the app multiple times if you install it on multiple iPod’s. For example, if you put the same app on 3 different iPod’s, you must purchase it 3 times. You can put free apps on as many iPod’s as you would like. There is a Volume Purchase License available through Apple. If you are interested, have your school administration look into this for you.

9 Downloading Apps From iTunes 1Open iTunes on your computer 2Choose “iTunes Store” from menu on the left 3Make sure you are signed into your iTunes account on the top right of the screen 4Click on “App Store” in the top center of the screen 5Search for apps by category or name 6When you find the app you want to download, click “Free” or “1.99” (varies depending on the app). 7The app will download into the “Applications” folder on the left side menu of your iTunes application

10 Installing Apps & Syncing your iPod Touch 1Plug your iPod into your computer and open iTunes 2Choose your iPod under “Devices” on the left side menu 3From the top menu, choose “Apps” and click on the apps you would like to install on your iPod 4Click through the other menus (Music, Movies, Podcasts, Photos, Books, etc) and choose any other items you would like to place on your iPod 5Click on “Sync” or “Apply” at the bottom of the screen. All of the items you have chosen should now install on your iPod 6Once your sync is complete, click the “eject” button next to your iPod name under “Devices” 7You may now unplug and use your iPod

11 iTunes U Provides unlimited information that is accessible at anytime Lectures Books Podcasts Videos More than 350,00 FREE resources To Access iTunes U, click on the “iTunes U” button in iTunes The TN Dept of Education has an iTunes U page with resources Aligned to the State Standards

13 Software Updates Make sure you check for software updates regularly! Apple puts out updates on a regular basis. iTunes needs to be updated iPod software needs to be updated

14 How to Choose Apps for Students STUDENT TASK ENVIRONMENT TOOLS What are the needs & abilities of the student? What technology is available? What does the student need to accomplish? What other tools will be needed?
