LAN Local Area Network A local area network (LAN) is a computer network that interconnects computers in a limited area such as a home, school, computer laboratory, or office building using network media. The defining characteristics of LANs, in contrast to wide area networks (WANs), include their usually higher data-transfer rates, smaller geographic area, and lack of a need for leased telecommunication lines. Peer-to-peer A peer-to-peer (P2P) computer network is one in which each computer in the network can act as a client or server for the other computers in the network, allowing shared access to various resources such as files, peripherals, and sensors without the need for a central server Torrent sites

Network standards Network standards facilitate the interoperability (the ability to exchange and use information ) of network technologies and are extremely important. Ethernet, also known as IEEE This is a standard for hardwired networks. When people talk about Cat 5 cable, this is usually what they mean. It defines what types of wiring can be used, transmission power requirements, connector styles.
