4 Misplaced: the modifier is MISPLACED (in the wrong place). Usually, a sentence with a misplaced modifier seems funny. Dangling: the modifier is DANGLING because it seems to be modifying nothing. You usually need to add words (usually a subject) to make it make sense.

17  What do each of the letters represent?  Where does your thesis go?  At the end of the first paragraph, if the subject is not too controversial.  Why would you want to hold off on an explicit thesis for controversial subjects?  You don’t want your reader to stop reading.  How many paragraphs should you have?  multiple – one idea per paragraph

19  Read the prompt and think about your response.  Make sure you understand what is being asked.

20  Write an essay in which you discuss a time when discontent led to action. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your readings, studies, experiences, or observations.

22  Brainstorm ideas  Write down words that come to your mind.  Do these words have correlations?  Take a position  Write a thesis – what do you think about the prompt?  Make sure the thesis is specific instead of too broad.  Develop an outline – use the blank space under the prompt.  Plan on a 4-5 paragraph essay  Introduction – Main Points - Conclusion

23  Using the outline as a guide – begin writing.  Suggested 400 words  Use paragraphs  Make sure your essay makes sense.

24  Time check  You have about 7 minutes left – make sure you are almost finished.  If you are almost finished – focus on the conclusion.  Finish  Conclusion

25  Read your essay.  Proofread for errors.  Do you need to add transitions?  Reread.  Relax.
