What is Dual Enrollment? The purpose of the MSJC-MVUSD Dual Enrollment: Provide an alternative to Advanced Placement courses Provide students an opportunity to enroll in College Courses Expand student access to higher education Provides challenging academic experiences to qualified high school students during their Junior and Senior years. Reduces costs of a college education for students and their families by reducing the length of time it takes for students to obtain their educational and/or career goals Improve College credit rates for High School students To address the enrollment impaction currently facing high education

Why take Dual Enrollment courses? Successful completion of transfer courses will enable students to simultaneously earn college credit transferable to two and four year colleges/universities and satisfy high school graduation requirements.

MSJC Matriculation Process Meet 3.0 GPA requirement Students must assess on MSJC’s assessment tool ACCUPLACER. In order to qualify for the classes proposed, they must assess into ENG 101 for all English/Humanities courses. Math 105 for all Math/Science courses. Complete MSJC Online Orientation Complete MSJC co-enrollment form for students and parents. MVUSD will submit transcripts and co-enrollment form to MSJC. MSJC will enroll student in section and course.

Courses offered at VMHS 2011 – 2012 English 101: Freshman Composition (4 units) English 103: Critical Thinking & Writing (4 units) ASL 103: American Sign Language III (4 units) ASL 104: American Sign Language IV (4 units) Math 105: College Algebra (4 units) Math 110: Pre-Calculus (5 units) Psych 101: Introduction to Psychology (3 units) Phil 101: Intro to Philosophy I (3 units) Unit/Credit Breakdown: MSJC 3 – 4 units = 10 MVUSD credits MSJC 5 units = 15 MVUSD credits MSJC Semester = MVUSD year long course

Results 63 students enrolled into English 101 Fall 2010 - 100% pass rate - 63 students advanced to English 103 Spring 2011 138 students enrolled in Math 105 Fall 2010 - 93% pass rate - 128 students advanced to Math 110 Spring 2011 * Students will not continue to next English or Math class until prerequisite class is completed with a C or better

Course offerings 2010 – 2011 English 101: Freshman Composition (4 units) English 103: Critical Thinking & Writing (4 units) Psych 101: Introduction to Psychology (3 units) Phil 101: Intro to Philosophy I (3 units) ASL 103: American Sign Language III (4 units) ASL 104: American Sign Language IV (4 units) Math 105: College Algebra (4 units) Math 110: Pre-Calculus (5 units) Total of 31 transferable college units completed, eliminates up to 1 year of college course work and costs. Savings to students estimated $26,400 at UC, $18,740 at CSU.
