8. Why So Much Focus on Developmental Education? Policy-makers perceive DE as a symptom of a larger educational system failure. Fixing the educational system is an economic imperative. 20 years ago, the U.S. was ranked highest in the world for the percentage of adults with college degrees. Now, we are tied for 10 th. By 2018, 62% of all jobs will require a college credential, and more than 1/2 of those will require a bachelor’s degree.

9. BUT… Only 42% of U.S. adults aged 25-34 hold a post-secondary credential. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (www.oecd.org)www.oecd.org

10. Developmental Education Bridges the Access and the Completion Agendas. We will never reach the completion goals if we reduce access. But can we find shorter or more effective bridges between access and completion?
