Algebra I – The Gatekeeper California students fail Algebra I at extraordinarily high rates. In 2006-07, an expected 40% of the state’s 9 th graders will need to repeat the course. SUMMER ALGEBRA ACADEMIES Research tells us that freshmen: - are fearful of high school facility - need an adult figure to mentor them - seek advice about college/careers from teacher - turn to parents for advice about college
