An interior decorator job may involve the following kinds of tasks: Choosing paint colors and fabrics Selecting and arranging furniture to enhance both the appearance and function of a space Finding the appropriate lighting, window coverings and flooring Choosing accessories – from throw pillows to artwork Interior decorators make aesthetic improvements, but they don’t make structural changes to interior spaces. Consequently, interior decorators don’t need to be knowledgeable about building and safety codes.

Interior design is a profession concerned with anything that is found inside a space - walls, windows, doors, finishes, textures, light, furnishings and furniture. All of these elements are used by interior designers to develop a functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing space for a building's user. Interior Designers need to be flexible, creative, and have a knowledge of colors, design, and furnishings Many are certified by ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Both interior decorators and designers create beautiful and functional spaces; however, interior designers are licensed professionals who coordinate projects that may involve architecture and construction.
