GOD’S OWN PASTOR TIMOTHY HINKLE JULY 12, 2015
2
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
3
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
4
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
5
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O L ORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
6
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
7
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
8
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 7 And the angel of the L ORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
9
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
10
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the L ORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
11
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the L ORD. And, behold, the L ORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the L ORD ; but the L ORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the L ORD was not in the earthquake:
12
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the L ORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
14
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the L ORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
15
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 15 And the L ORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
16
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
17
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
18
1 KINGS 19 :1-18 18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

OVERVIEW The nation of Israel was in a dire state King Ahab was an evil ruler who all but abdicated his crown and rule to his pagan wife, Jezebel, who had brought false gods into Israel, primarily Baal. Elijah, God’s true prophet challenged Jezebel and King Ahab

THE CHALLENGE

FALSE PROPHETS OF BAAL
22
ELIJAH CALLS ON GOD
23
GOD SPEAKS
24
GOD’S JUDGEMENT 20 And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the L ORD. 21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel,
25
GOD’S JUDGEMENT 22 And will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin. 23 And of Jezebel also spake the L ORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.
26
GOD’S JUDGEMENT 24 Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.
27
GOD’S JUDGEMENT 25 But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the L ORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.
28
GOD’S JUDGEMENT 26 And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the L ORD cast out before the children of Israel.
29
AHAB HUMBLES HIMSELF 27 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.
30
AHAB HUMBLES HIMSELF 28 And the word of the L ORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 29 Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.
31
2 CHRONICLES 7:14 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
32
2 KINGS 9:1-10 And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up thy loins, and take this box of oil in thine hand, and go to Ramothgilead:
33
2 KINGS 9:1-10 2 And when thou comest thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber;
34
2 KINGS 9:1-10 3 Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus saith the L ORD, I have anointed thee king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
35
2 KINGS 9:1-10 4 So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramothgilead.
36
2 KINGS 9:1-10 5 And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to thee, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To thee, O captain.
37
2 KINGS 9:1-10 6 And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus saith the L ORD God of Israel, I have anointed thee king over the people of the L ORD, even over Israel.
38
2 KINGS 9:1-10 7 And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of theL ORD, at the hand of Jezebel.
39
2 KINGS 9:1-10 8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:
40
2 KINGS 9:1-10 9 And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah:
41
2 KINGS 9:1-10 10 And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.
42
2 KINGS 9:21-37 21 And Joram said, Make ready. And his chariot was made ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Jehu, and met him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite. 22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?
43
2 KINGS 9:21-37 23 And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah. 24 And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.
44
2 KINGS 9:21-37 25 Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, the L ORD laid this burden upon him;
45
2 KINGS 9:21-37 26 Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith the L ORD ; and I will requite thee in this plat, saith the L ORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of the L ORD.
46
2 KINGS 9:21-37 27 But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot. And they did so at the going up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.
47
2 KINGS 9:21-37 28 And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David.
48
2 KINGS 9:21-37 29 And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Judah. 30 And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window. 31 And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?
49
2 KINGS 9:21-37 32 And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs. 33 And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.
50
2 KINGS 9:21-37 34 And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king's daughter. 35 And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.
51
2 KINGS 9:21-37 36 Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the L ORD, which he spake by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel: 37 And the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.
52
GENESIS 18:23-26 23 And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
53
GENESIS 18:23-26 25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? 26 And the L ORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
54
GOD’S GRACE 32 And he said, Oh let not the L ORD be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: eradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.
55
2 CHRONICLES 7:14 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
