2 Facts About Dolphins and Sharks Dolphins breathe through a blow hole on top of their heads, and need air every 2 minutes. Dolphins communicate with each other by echo-location. They have a clicking and whistling sound. They use echo-location to find food. Dolphins are protective of groups when predators approach. Dolphins swim fastest when they shallow dive, which is when they leap out and in the water. Some scientist believe the Bottlenose dolphin is the smartest dolphin, and the most friendliest towards people. Sharks are cold blooded. Their body changes with the outside temperature. Many Sharks have 5 rows of teeth and if they lose one, it grows back. Sharks can quickly turn in the water because of their cartilage skeleton bodies. Sharks do not have lungs. Instead, they have gills on each side of their bodies. Sharks swim with their mouths opened. Some sharks give birth by laying eggs, and some give birth to live young sharks.

3 Dolphins and Sharks Similarities Both dolphins and sharks live in the ocean. They are larger and stronger than most sea animals and are the predators of the ocean. Both dolphins and sharks can grow more than 30 feet long. They are both strong and powerful swimmers. Dolphins can go 15-30 mph and sharks can go 30 mph.
