Houston, we have a problem. The United States ranks 17 th in science achievement; 25 th in math ability out of 65 countries. 1 By 2018… – STEM jobs will grow by 17 percent 2 – 1.2 million STEM jobs will go unfilled 3

Houston, we have a problem. Women constitute 48 percent of the U.S. workforce but hold just 24 percent of the U.S. jobs in STEM 4. Only 1 in 10 STEM professionals is a minority woman.

PLTW is solving it. Highlights of PLTW’s success to date: PLTW contributes to a strong, positive impact on mathematics and science achievement (Tai, 2012) Seventy percent of high school seniors who are taking PLTW courses intend to study engineering, technology, computer science, or another applied science 5. Over 93% of PLTW students intend to pursue at least a two-year or four-year degree after high school 5.
