Vision: To Create a Healthier & Tobacco-Free Miami Dade. Mission: To reduce exposure to second and third hand smoke by raising awareness, advocating for smoke-free policies, resolutions, and ordinances and promoting smoking cessation. DescriptionVision & Mission

Prevent Initiation of Tobacco Use Among Youth and Young Adults -Increase restrictions on access to tobacco by minors -Reduce tobacco industry influences Eliminate Secondhand Smoke Exposure -Create tobacco-free policies Promote Cessation from Tobacco Use -Increase use of cessation services -Increase the number of healthcare providers and health care systems following the Public Health Services’ Clinical Practice Guidelines Infrastructure -Create and/or maintain a stand-alone County tobacco-free partnership -Create and /or maintain local SWAT Chapters -Recruit and/or maintain paid work force to carry out specific program functions. Tobacco Free Summit William Sanchez Hialeah Parks & Recreation Rick Bender: Over 1000 Participants

Candy-Flavored Tobacco Products: Assisted 15 municipalities with establishing and adopting resolutions and one ordinance in support of banning the sale of candy- flavored tobacco. Tobacco-Free Multi-Unit Housing: Members worked with managers, owners and associations to institute tobacco-free policies in multi-unit housing. Tobacco-Free Hospitals, Colleges, Universities: With the MDCHD Tobacco Prevention Program, assisted Florida Memorial University, Larkin Hospital, and Mercy Hospital in passing a tobacco-free policy. Comprehensive Tobacco Policies in K-12 Schools: Miami-Dade County Public Schools endorsed the Great American Smoke Out Event as a kickoff to an ongoing annual event to reinforce its commitment to tobacco-free living. Worksite Tobacco Policies: Collaborated with the Worksite Wellness Committee in establishing smoke-free policies at all South Florida Educational Credit Unions. Community Events: SWAT training at FIU with over 200 middle/high school students. 2012 Anniversary Highlights

Policy change: Public Housing, Apartments, Hospitals, & Universities Increase “Smoke-free Children Zones” in parks throughout the County Surveillance of tobacco retailer to assess compliance with revised law. Increase the number of organizations / worksites offering smoking cessation Increase the number of municipalities adopting resolutions or ordinances banning the sale of candy flavored tobacco Create greater opportunities for SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) members to advocate for a Tobacco-Free Environment. Moving Forward
