o o Tooth loss, or edentulism, is when one or more teeth fall out or are extracted due to injury or disease such as mouth trauma, tooth decay or gum disease. History 3

o Tooth loss is expected to increase with aging baby boomers, perpetuating a phenomenon among a generation of people that saw their parents fall victim to tooth loss due to lack of dental care. o If left untreated, it can lead to resorption and drifting of teeth. History 4

o Poor oral hygiene habits o Poor nutrition and lack of proper diet o Bad habits (Smoking, drinking alcohol) o No mouth protection (For those into sports) Symptoms and Causes 5

Medical and Dental Treatments Needed 7 o Missing teeth can be replaced in a variety of ways. Most significant among these is the expected longevity, strength and stability offered by current implant treatment, as well as the predictability of implant treatment with current technologies. o Teeth are replaced with Dentures or a Fixed Bridge.

o Educate yourself about the proper way to take care of your teeth. o Practice good oral habits. Brush & floss regularly! o Visit your dentist at least twice a year. o Use mouth guards (for those into sports, etc.). o Have a balanced diet. o Avoid bad habits (drinking, smoking, & eating junk food) Preventive Methods 9
