This course introduces students on how to write and prepare a research proposal in a systematic manner. A student proposes or selects a project after discussion and approval of his or her supervisor. Usually, a project is based on a core subject of a program. Although projects may differ between students, students get the same exposure and training when they plan and prepare their research proposal. Discussions with supervisor, presentation of research proposal and writing a research proposal are methods used to meet the learning objectives of this course.

By the end of this course, students will be able to: 1. Produce a research proposal which include Chapters One, Two and Three for a topic area in Cognitive Science, with clear discussions about sections of the chapters such as background, problem statements, research questions, hypotheses, conceptual framework, theories and models, previous research, research articles, research designs, techniques of data collection, sampling, validity and reliability issues and data analysis. 2. Explain and communicate with lecturers and relevant parties about the study, and search at libraries, resource centers, on- line and other sources for relevant information in order to plan about instrument, module, system design or product design that will be developed. 3. Demonstrate the previous research and methodology through individual presentation

1. Common research  Quantitative, qualitative or mix 2. System Design and Development 3. Prototype/Product Design 4. Other project type approved by supervisor

 Early literature survey and review in related field of research  Early meeting and discussion with potential supervisor  In a respective semester, at least 6 meetings with supervisor  log book  Individual time management  At least 3 hours/week  Data collection  Public/private  Supervisor’s responsible (letter, communication, etc.)

 Report (Chap 1,2,3) = 80%  Presentation = 15%  Aptitude = 5% + log book  Grading (A… C), Above 50%
