Naomi Klein, No Logo Thanks to the Net, mobilizations are able to unfold with sparse bureaucracy and minimal hierarchy; forced consensus and labored manifestos are fading into the background, replaced instead by a culture of constant, loosely structured, and sometimes compulsive information swapping.... And while this network is wildly ambitious in its scope and reach, its goals are anything but imperial. This network … seeks to disperse power, as widely and evenly as possible.

SAAM, Listen -Materials and Announcements relating to Sexual Assault Awareness Month -Coordination for our premier public awareness event, Listen: a 24 hour reading of survivors’ stories - Listen Campaign: A separate, online awareness campaign
24
SAAM
25
SAAM, Listen We set out to create an awareness campaign which: was sensitive enough to avoid retraumatization of participants; was easy enough to not require a large commitment from casual participants; was interesting enough that many would participate; was easy to forward to others; helped us build aggregate data for research and evaluation; helped lead people to offline advocacy activities; and helped foster open discussion of sexual assault issues
26
SAAM, Listen Why “Listen”? Sexual assault is hard to talk about! Instead, we talk about: Priests Kobe Bryant Michael Jackson “Listen” has an important meaning for all our audiences: survivors, friends, policymakers, the media.
27
SAAM, Listen Campaign Attributes Interesting: people will forward to friends (“viral marketing”) Thought-provoking: people will remember (“sticky”) Relevant: related to our main goal of raising awareness Engaging: not passive, leads participants to get more involved Discreet: no re-traumatization, no privacy issues
28
“How many people have told you about experiencing a sexual assault?”
