2 Summarizer Give the most important ideas in one or two sentences Do not include details or information that is not important It is a reminder of what has been read so far.

3 Clarifier You must clarify whenever you: Use context clues to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words or passages Read a word you don’t understand. Find that sentence doesn’t make sense. Are confused by what you have read. Explain that to the group and tell them what you think the passage means. Pause and re-read until it makes sense.

4 Questioner Think of questions to ask as you read the text 3 types of questioning: Questions of Fact These are questions that can be answered directly from the text. Who? What? Questions of Interpretation These are questions that must be supported by textual evidence, but the answer is not stated directly in the text Questions that are open ended These are questions that have more than one correct answer. Answers are usually influenced by personal experiences

5 Predictor Use what you have read or clues from the illustrations to help figure out what the group will learn or what will happen in the text. You can change your predictions as you read on!
