2 What is TechPrep Began in the early 1980’s as an option (opportunity) for HS students Locally driven; career oriented Today - major national strategy for improving students' academic knowledge and technical skills Still locally driven but funded through Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act; still career oriented though careers today are healthcare, biotech etc 47% of nation's HS offer at least one TechPrep program; nearly every community and technical college is involved

3 TechPrep at SFCC Have been involved with this program since the 1980’s Our TechPrep Consortium has received regional, state and national recognition for innovation and collaboration It is an important funding source for Technology and Applied Sciences Expand into very rural areas of North Central Florida

4 Health Occupations Academies Designed to give HS students the opportunity to succeed in postsecondary nursing or allied health programs Academy of Health Professions (AHP) is a magnet program located provides experience for students interested in technical training in health-related careers. integrated curricula in applied academics and clinical experiences in health care settings. upon graduation, the student is can seek employment in the health field and continue education at the post secondary level. Allied Health Sciences; Nursing; Dental; Emergency Medical Services and Fire Sciences at Santa Fe Community College and linked with the health care providers of the region

5 What is the Rural Healthcare Alliance? Our mission is to develop strategies and processes and promote community partnerships to increase the quantity and quality of Nursing and Allied Health professionals in the Heart of Florida A CBJT Grant

12 Evaluation of Institute On a Likert Scale of 1 to 5, attending faculty and advisors: First year: Day 1 ~ 4.7; Day 2 ~ 4.6 Second year: Day 1 ~4.6; Day ~ 4.8

13 Real Evaluation However, the real evaluation is pass rates on Credit by Exam Tests Three years ago, no HS student took the A&P or CHM tests; very few of them passed the Med Term and Intro to Healthcare Tests. NOW
