2 Benefits and Risks of Organ Transplantation Healthy normal life for recipient, society benefits too Risks: rejection due to immune system, tries to destroy it try to minimize this by using genetically similar tissue necessary to take drugs to suppress immune system therefore susceptible to other diseases

3 Xenotransplantation Transplanting an organ or tissue from one species to another ex: Pig heart valves  humans Note: the pig tissue has been chemically treated to kill the cells since rejection is a major issue
