1) Introduction, asserts as a matter of Natural Law the ability of a people to assume political independence; acknowledges that the grounds for such independence must be reasonable, and therefore explicable, and that they ought to be explained.

In the Spiritual Life You always have the right to separate from others, without guilt, and in most cases you should give a reason as to why you are separating. 1 Peter 3:15-17

2) Preamble, outlines a general philosophy of government that justifies emancipation when government harms natural rights.

In the Spiritual Life We have been freed from the slave market of sin and we should not place ourselves under its yoke again. Isa 61:1; Gal 5:1, 13; 1 Peter 2:16

Gal 5:1, βIt was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.β

3) Indictment, is a bill of particulars documenting the king's "repeated injuries and usurpations" of the Americans' rights and liberties.

Usurpations mean the wrongful seizure of something by force, especially of sovereignty or other authority, or to trespass onto another's property without permission.

In the Spiritual Life We are not to trespass against others. We are to forgive the trespasses of others against us. Mat 6:12-13

If someone is leading you into temptation or constantly sinning against you, you should separate from them.

4) Denunciation, justified the conditions for Independence.

This represented the framers' disappointment that their attempts to appeal to the people, the prominent, Parliament and King were unsuccessful.

In the Spiritual Life, a) You have been made a new creation, you are a new spiritual species. 2 Cor 5:17; Gal 6:15

In the Spiritual Life, b) You have been separated from the lost and dying. Eph 2:12; 3:20

5) Conclusion, The assertion that there exist conditions under which people must change their government,... by necessity the colonies must throw off political ties with the British Crown and become independent states.

In the Spiritual Life, Sometimes, it is better to get away from certain people or situations in order to go forward in life and the Plan of God. 2 Cor 6:14-7:1; 1 Cor 5:9-11; Rom 16:17-18.

Principles of Separation: Separation can be achieved either mentally or physically.

Principles of Separation: If you are unable to separate from sin and evil mentally, then you must separate physically to get away from and remove the temptation.
