6 Separation of Powers (fourth body paragraph)
The division of governmental powers among separate branches is known as Separation of Powers. This was because the framers of the Constitution wanted a strong central government. At the same time, they feared individuals or large groups might acquire or stay in power too long. To prevent the concentration of power in the hands of the few, delegates adopted the concept of Separation of Powers.

7 Checks and Balances (fifth body paragraph)
While making the three branches of government separate, the framers also wanted to be sure that no one branch could act completely with out restraints. Therefore, the framers set up a system of Checks-and-Balances. Under this system, each branch of government exercises some control over the other two. The system of Checks-and-Balances prevents the accumulation of too much power in any one branch of government.
