Forms and conventions - In what ways does your magazine use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real music magazines? My magazine is very typical of a real music magazine in terms of its forms and conventions. The only slight difference is that the second magazines front covers masthead is behind the head of the main image Featuring articles Both have main images. This shows my front cover to conform to conventions Date and issue numbers are present in both As you can see the conformity of my magazines front cover is clear. Only with one difference

How does your magazine represent particular social groups? As my magazine is based on RnB it is likely to represent black people as RnB is a predominantly black genre. As my magazine is about an RnB artist from East London, a variety of social groups will be targeted as East London is very diverse. However, my magazine is more likely to represent black teenagers the most in comparison to other teenagers from different social groups. The representation of black teenagers is reinforced by the pictures mostly.

What kind of institution might distribute your magazine and why? A local shop might distribute my magazine as it is much more likely to be purchased from there compared to any other institution such as a night club etc. My magazine is designed in such a way that is suited for the shops to sell. This is show by the issues and the price, which is only ideal to distributed by a local shop.

Who would be the target audience for your magazine? My magazine is targeted to teenagers as well as both sexes. I tried to make this appeal to them through the use of colours such as pink, black and white. Even though the pictures are of males it can be argued that it is only for males – which can bring about the debate of gender bias. However I did try to minimise this by adding the names of female RnB artists and the pink font on the front cover.

Looking back to your school magazine cover, what do you feel you have learnt between creating that and creating your music magazine? How did the school magazine task help? I have learnt that consumption of time, effort and dedication is much more greater with the music magazine in comparison to the preliminary task. I have also learnt to construct a magazine requires good creative skills in order to entice the audiences. I have also learnt that whilst making a magazine the typical convention of a front cover, contents page and double page spread need to be accurate. The creation of the school magazine did help me. I must say it made me feel more at ease for the creation of the upcoming music magazine This is my school magazine front cover This is my music magazine front cover. It shows that much more effort and time was put into it. It looks much more professional than the school magazine front cover. It also shows that my creativity has improved from the last time.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing your magazine? (software, photography etc) I have learnt that in order to construct a magazine in particular by using a program(i.e publisher or Photoshop), you will have to know how to use it and when to use it when necessary for e.g. increasing/decreasing contrast, increasing/decreasing brightness. With photography I have learnt that you will to take shot at more than one type of angel in order to connote or show something about the person or topic. Also, I have learnt that in photography there's many things to be considered such as composition, lighting etc. Alternatively, I have learnt that without using technology the construction of the magazine can still be thought of. For example before using technology to construct my magazine I drew sketches to plan out the looks of my magazine.

How did you attract / address your audience? I attracted my audiences by letting them know what the magazine is about. This is firstly connoted by the masthead – SOUL RHYTHM which gives of an RnB impression. RnB has soul elements and is very rhythmic. As you can see I also put well known RnB artists as this is also an element of attraction. Names of well known RnB artists. Masthead This sell line also helps to entice the audience. They will be able to know what the magazine is about- RnB
