KOREA 16 Conference Paper 2 “Innovative types and abilities of neural networks based on associative mechanisms and a new associative model of neurons” Main Idea –A new kind of neural networks, called as-neurons –The structure is automatically constructed and parameters are automatically computed on the basis of plastic mechanisms –Allows to quickly create associations and establish weighted connections between neural representations of data, their classes, and sequences –Automatically interconnect representing similar or sequential data 3

KOREA 16 Conference Review Conference and Sessions –During registration, they lost my name tag at first, but made a new one for me on the same day –There were only few people in the audience Due to it being the last day –The chair was a little disorganized with time –Provided two thick books containing accepted papers Banquet –Banquet was very lively –Very good social environment –People were very willing to mingle with other researchers, exchange contact information, and engage in conversations about research and non-research topics There were a lot of Polish people in the conference But I was able to meet a lot of people from other countries, too (due to high number of attendees), at the banquet and during the succeeding days 4

KOREA 16 Conference Review People –There were noticeable a big number of Polish people –Nevertheless, I was able to meet a lot of people from other countries (due to high number of attendees), at the banquet and during the succeeding days –The biggest international crowd I have met in a conference American professor from Purdue University, three Polish guys, a Polish girl, a Czech, a Taiwanese professor who knows Taichi, an Indonesian girl taking her Phd in Taiwan, a Mexican, an Uruguayan, and a Spanish guy 5

KOREA 16 City Info Zakopane, Poland –Normally 2-3 hours from Krakow Int’l airport –Took me 5 hours because it was raining; going back to the airport was faster (sunny day) –1 bus to Krakow city center, 1 bus to Zakopane Bus terminal, and taxi to the hotel –The journey from Krakow to Zakopane is a sight to see; lots of very cute, almost identical, triangular houses, pine trees, and green fields –Weather is cold (equivalent to late autumn in Korea) Hotel Mercure Kasprowy –Three-star hotel –Whole hotel has no aircon –Hotel room, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all included in the registration fee (980 euros) 6

KOREA 16 City Info Food and transportation –Mostly meat in the menu; very few veggies –The polish has their version of strong alcohol (very much like vodka) –Cheap transportation (one bus ride=4 zloty; Zakopane bus=15 zloty) –Very cheap bread; big, thick, immortal pretzel for 1-2 zloty People –Only few people are fluent in English as opposed to what I expected –They pronounce ‘W’ with ‘V’ –Polish dance is composed of a lot of jumping 7

KOREA 16 Miscellaneous: Berlin Technical Trip Visited a friend working at the Technological University of Berlin (TUP) –Virtual Reality and Human Psychology Virtual reality goggles create an environment that induces emotions (e.g., standing on top of a high-rise building) –EEG and Object cognition 8

S FT COMPUTING @ YONSEI UNIV. KOREA 16 Miscellaneous: Berlin Technical Trip Comments –Very large experiment room provided –Large room approximately has 27 cameras to detect human movements (360 degrees) –Uses high-performance laptop (goal is to make EEG mobile) 9
