1 MY PRESENTATION ON DR. CARTER G. WOODSON By Michael Bakalina To Ms. Tuel and her classroom

2 DR. CARTER G. WOODSON Dr. Woodson invented Black History Month!

3 NAACP He was affiliated with the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) but then due to disagreement he quit the NAACP.

4 HE WAS BORN DECEMBER 19, 1875.

5 HE WASN’T MARRIED. His favorite excuse was he was married to his job.

6 HE DIDN’T HAVE ANY CHILDREN AS A RESULT.

7 HE WORKED VERY HARD! He had to help his family out so he quit school.

8 HE SADLY DIED. Died: April 3, 1950, Washington, D.C.

9 SCHOOLING He didn’t know how to read and his parents didn’t know how to read,but staggeringly he was taught to read. He had to quit school,but he went to three colleges! Harvard University University of Chicago Berea College

10 SIBLINGS He had many brothers and sisters. In fact he was one of nine children

11 BOOKS Dr. Woodson wrote many books. His work and books are still inspirational for many Americans. But his most famous book is titled “The Mis-Education of the Negro”

12 PARENTS His father and his grandfather were both skilled carpenters. His father’s name was James Henry Woodson and his mother’s name was Anne Eliza Riddle. ---------------------------------------------------------Interesting Fact------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Woodson was the first and only African American born of former slaves to earn a PH.D. in history!

13 HOW I RELATE TO DR. CARTER G. WOODSON I relate to Dr. Carter G. Woodson because I want freedom for African Americans.
