Your Business, Your Money....... Its the Industrial revolution You and your friends have decided to come to Henllys Vale to make your fortune What would you look for when choosing a site to build your business?

Natural features What might you look for? Flat land Water Workable materials and resources like wood, coal and limestone accessibility

Activities 1.Using your knowledge of the area and the Fact sheet decide in your groups: where would you locate your industry?

You have Chosen the location for your groups industry Are you sure about the choice?

Man Made features and other industry What might you look for? Infrastructure (roads, tramlines, railways, canals and communication) Other industries that have some thing that you will need (coal from coal mines, Lime from the kilns, stone from the quarry) workers

Your Industry You and your friends have decided that as George Crane and David Thomas of the Ynyscedwyn Iron works adapted the hot blast process (1837/1838) this is the industry you want to be a part of: The Iron Industry.

What would you need to start your business? Think of the physical and Human factors that you may need to consider Roads, tramways, railways, inclines and canals for transport Lime from the kilns (used as a flux) Coal from the coal mines Iron stone from the quarries

What would you need to start your business? Think of the physical and Human factors that you may need to consider Bricks for the building (silica sand for the bricks?) Local workers and businesses Water from the river Timber from the woodland
