Diabetic Emergencies Condition where pancreas no longer produces enough insulin or the insulin is ineffective Insulin moves sugar from bloodstream to cells ◦ Cells use sugar for energy Need to wear medical alert bracelet. Why?

Seizures May be unexpected, intense and unmanageable contraction of a group of muscles Could be a brief “loss of awareness” Caused by abnormal bursts of electrical activity in the brain

Types of Seizures Petit malGrand mal Last a few seconds Staring episodes; activity/ speech stop Generally occur in children Loss of consciousness Stiffening of body, shaking of limbs Clenching of teeth Loss of bladder/bowels Mental confusion following seizure
