God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
9
Fellowship with God John 17.20
"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
10
Fellowship with God John 17.21
that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
11
Fellowship with God Requires being in His Son
12
Galatians 3.27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
13
Romans 6.3-4 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. That person is then “In Christ” therefore born again.
14
1 Corinthians 3.16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? That person shares in the Spirit of God, the communion, or fellowship of the Spirit.
15
1 Corinthians 10.16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? That person can rightfully share in the Body and Blood of the Lord in His Supper…
16
Fellowship with God Requires being in His Son Staying in His Son
17
1 John 1.6-7 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. {7} But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. We cannot have fellowship with God, His Son and the Holy Spirit if we do not walk according to their light.
18
John 15.4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. To be in fellowship with God, Christ and the Holy Spirit we must remain (abide) in Christ.
19
John 15.10 "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. Abiding in Christ means keeping His commandments.
20
Fellowship with God Requires being in His Son Staying in His Son
Sharing in the sufferings of His Son But we will also suffer with Christ…
21
Philippians 3.10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, Paul knew this on a very intimate basis…
22
Matthew 16.24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. We will all be required to give up something…to suffer for His sake…
23
Galatians 6.14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. We will all be required to give up something…to suffer for His sake…
24
Fellowship with the Apostles
Acts 2.42 1 John 1.3 Acts 2.42 “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship…” 1 John 1.3 “that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
25
Fellowship with Other Christians
Acts 2.42 1 John 1.3 Acts 2.42 “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship…” 1 John 1.3 “that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
26
Ephesians 3.9 and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ; All saints gathered together in Christ…Share the Spirit, Christ Himself in His Body, the Church.
27
Romans 12.5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Members of each other…inseparable. As such, we share freely whatever we have with our brethren… We care for each other as if we were one body, dependent upon each other.
28
Hebrews 13.16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Called a “sacrifice” by the Hebrew writer…
29
2 Corinthians 8.4 imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. Paul refers to the contribution for the saints as a fellowship…
30
Philippians 1.4-5 4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, 5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, Paul refers to the help he received from the Philippians in preaching the gospel as fellowship
31
Fellowship with the sins of this world
This Fellowship is NOT Fellowship with the sins of this world Certain things prohibited by this fellowship…
32
2 Corinthians 6.14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? Requires us to refrain from linking ourselves together with unbelievers…marriage and otherwise. There is a difference between the Christian and those in the world…that fact is always behind our dealings with those who are in it.
33
Ephesians 5.11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. We are sometimes required to expose works of darkness…not a comfortable or popular thing to do. Some shrink from it, but still a commandment. By withdrawing ourselves and our support from these works, we expose them…but sometimes it requires explaining WHY we have refrained from it.
34
Fellowship in the sense that some use it today
This Fellowship is NOT Fellowship in the sense that some use it today Not common meals, basketball, volleyball…sponsored by the church and supported from the collection for the saints.
35
1 Corinthians 11.22 What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you. We are sometimes required to expose works of darkness…not a comfortable or popular thing to do. Some shrink from it, but still a commandment. By withdrawing ourselves and our support from these works, we expose them…but sometimes it requires explaining WHY we have refrained from it.
36
