What is the slope? How do we find the slope of a line from the graph? How do we use the slope to determine if lines are parallel or perpendicular? Parallel lines have the same slope Perpendicular lines – the slope is the opposite reciprocal How do we graph lines using slope and points? ` m = = rate of change =

3 ways to write equations of lines. a. Review slope intercept form. 1.Slope and y-intercept Slope- intercept form: y = mx + b Write an equation in slope-intercept form of the line with slope 8 and y intercept -2. What are the coordinates of the y –intercept (x, -2)? b.What is point slope form and how is it related to slope intercept form? c.How do we write an equation given the slope and a point? 2.Point and Slope Point-slope form: y - y 1 = m (x- x 1 ) Write an equation in point-slope form of the line with slope 8 and contains (8, 3).
