2. Welcome to 3 rd Grade!! This is my 12 th year teaching at Lakeway Elementary and my 20 th year as a teacher. I have a sweet sophomore daughter named Ally that is a LTHS cheerleader. GO CAVS! I also have 2 very rotten dogs that I adore. When I am not at school: I love to golf, shop, hang out at the lake, and eat Mexican food!

4. A few things to remember… Library –Every Wednesday- 8:00-8:30 –Check out 2 books each week Snack: Everyday –Healthy and not too messy Specials –PE: tennis shoes. If you sit out for PE you must sit out recess as well. –Music: recorders.

5. Master Binder and Planner Master Binder- please don’t take anything out! –Homework (passed on Friday afternoons. Due the following Thursday.) –Planner/ Events/ Codes –Math Notes –Language Arts Notes –Spelling Lists- stay in binder Planner –Homework and school info. for the week written on Monday mornings. Please do check planner. – Behavior codes (Talking/ No HW/ Ect.)

6. Homework Routine Read 20 minutes EVERY night. We are still working on fluency and comprehension in 3 rd grade. Practice flash cards 5-10 min. EVERY night. Have them practice only the level they are being tested rather than the entire box of cards. Homework will be sent home on Friday and will be due the following Thursday (math review packet and reading comprehension packet) HW may be turned in early. Do not wait until Wednesday night to attempt to complete the entire week’s worth of HW. Late HW= lose tickets and extra Friday recess. Please do check over your child’s HW for completion and understanding. Spelling homework is not required (extra credit only), and in the hw section of their binder for them to study. Please leave the list in the binder because we use it at school during the week! A master copy is on my website.

7. Multiplication Timed Tests Levels A- T. (0-12) 2 minutes- 50 problems. Lowest test grade dropped every 9 weeks. Pretests are on Monday/ Test on Thursday. Use flash cards to study. (One set for school and one for home.) Must score 90% to move to the next level. Tests are available for printout on my website and laminated tests can be checked out as well. Effort= Results!!! GOAL: “Know your facts as quickly as you know your own name”

8. Spelling Tests- Fridays Study all 18 words spelling words. Only 5 words will be tested in sentence dictation form. Students will be graded on capitalization, and end punctuation as well as making sure the spelling word is spelled correctly. 5 Vocabulary words are used as bonus words only. Sometimes students will be able to use their list and write a creative story or make their own sentences for their test, so please do not take the spelling list out of the master binder!

9. T-Shirts Should be worn on field trips, spirit days, field day Price included in class funds ($30) Please remember these shirts last all year, you may want to order 1 size larger (they run small)

10. Field Trips Long Center - Nutcracker Ballet (Students Only) –December 9 th or 10th Inner Space Caverns (Limited # of Chaperones) –April 29t h –You can guarantee your spot by bidding on our class at the carnival!

11. Birthdays Bring treats in the morning on the last Friday of the month Please coordinate with parents of students that share the same birthday month We will only have 1 bottle of water and 1 treat (cookie or cupcake) per student- per state law and district policy

12. Transportation Please send a note with your child if there is any change from the regular or routine mode of transportation or email the front office. If there is a change of plans during the school day, the front office (hansonl@ltisdschools.org) as soon as possible so a pass can be sent to your child. I may not get a chance to check my email before the end of the day, so please do not email me about changes!hansonl@ltisdschools.org Communicate with your child before school if there is any change in transportation.

16. Parent Conferences October 3 th and 8 th (Early Release Days) @ 11:40 Sign up for a conference to meet and discuss your child’s progress. We will discuss any testing results and current progress Ideas for helping your child at home I also have a few conference times available for after school for parents that have scheduling issues.

18. Before You Leave! Look over the Golden form on your child’s desk and make any needed corrections. Sign it at the bottom. Please leave this on your child’s desk. (You may take the other papers with you.) Write your child a note on the back of the note they wrote you. Sign up at the round table for a conference time please! We need library volunteers for Wednesday mornings 8:00-8:30. Make sure I know your child’s t-shirt size. If you have not paid the $30 class fund, please get this to me by next Friday.
