3
Dear Parents, You are cordially invited to be a partner in your child’s education.
4
Assignment Planner: Ask your child what he or she is studying, and look at the assignment planner every night. You should always find the homework written in their planner.
5
Edmodo You should have already received your unique passcode for Edmodo. Follow the instructions to set up your account as soon as possible. This is similar to a Facebook account, but more secure. Teachers will post important announcements, assignments, etc. This is a great opportunity for students to post any questions they may have about assignments. Email cashj@lisd.net if you have problems.cashj@lisd.net
6
mcauliffe.lisd.net We will be posting a weekly newsletter on this site each Friday.
7
Plans may change from what you see on Edmodo and the newsletter based on student needs and school activities. For this reason, the planner is an important communication tool for teachers, students, and parents. The information in the planner is your guide to student’s classroom activities and homework.
8
We will also send home progress reports or make phone calls if we feel that your child is not progressing as expected. The gradebook is on Skyward this year. Last week in the McAuliffe folder usernames and passwords were sent home. These should be used to view your child’s assignments and grades. You can also update personal information in Skyward, such as addresses and phone numbers.
9
Ask Questions: If you have any concerns or are wondering why something is happening, please feel free to call or email us at any time. We welcome all concerns, ideas, and feedback that affect your child or our classrooms. If something is not working, we are more than willing to talk. We welcome all feedback! Our conference time is 2:05 – 2:50. School number is 469-713-5959.
10
We encourage you to set up with your child a scheduled time for homework each day. Students should be able to do most assignments independently, but do help if it is necessary. If you notice that your child is struggling with an assignment, please send a note or email to us about the assignment. We will contact you if your child is falling behind or turning in poor quality work.
11
Snack: All students may bring a nutritious snack and a bottle of water to school every day. Please also give us a heads up at least a day ahead of time if your child is planning to bring a treat for his or her birthday.
12
Excessive Tardies/Unexcused Absences Your child’s attendance is monitored daily by the attendance clerk and teacher. At the end of each nine weeks, Mrs. Roebken will review all absences and tardies. Students who have four tardies and/or unexcused absences in a given period will be assigned to Responsibility Academy (RA). Students who have more than four tardies/unexcused absences may be assigned to more than one week of RA.
13
Arrival Time: We also would like to request that students arrive at their classroom by 7:40, so they are seated before announcements begin at 7:45. This little bit of extra time before the tardy bell at 7:50 allows students to organize their school supplies and feel prepared to begin their rotations for the day.
14
Medical Appoinments: Please try to schedule any medical appointments after 1:15 in the afternoon. Academic classes in 5 th grade are scheduled from 8:30 – 1:15.
15
Absent Work: When a student is absent, the homeroom teacher will circulate around a sheet to be filled out by each teacher. Teachers will record what the student is missing in class that day and what work they will need to make-up. If you would like to pick up your child’s work at the end of the day, you can make arrangements by calling the office. Otherwise, their collected work will be located on the round table at the end of the 5 th grade hallway the next morning.
