STUDENT TRANSPORTATION COSC Presentation in Boardroom Wednesday, April 8 th, 2015 7:30 p.m.

Process for Transportation Set up 1.Main line - planner assistant receives call. 2.Verify student information, home address (alternate address, if necessary) and attending school. 3.Is this the student’s designated school? * If not the designated school, is there a non-designated fee that applies as well, payable via PowerSchool Parent Portal. 4.What is the distance from the home address to the school? * Is it over 2.4 kilometres? * The distance is calculated using software and is the shortest walking distance measured along any roadways and pathways. It is not the driving distance by vehicle. * If the home address is greater than 2.4 kms to the designated school, the student would be eligible for busing.

Process - Continued * Is it less than 2.4 kilometres? * If less than 2.4 kms, a payride fee applies payable via PowerSchool Parent Portal. 5.Locate the nearest bus route and bus stop. 6.Is the bus stop location within walking distance guidelines? * K-6up to 250 metres * 7-12up to 400 metres If over the walking guideline, where could a stop be added? * Is the bus already going by the address? Does the bus need to be re- routed? Is there time to re-route the bus?

Process - continued 7.Would this bus need to access a transfer site or is this a direct bus? 8.Inform parent of their students’ bus information – * bus stop location, route number, pick up time, drop off time * inform them the driver will be contacting them to confirm the pick up time and location * the expectation of the student being at their designated stop at least 5 minutes prior to boarding the bus. 9.Ensure parent has access to MyStop, EIPS Bus Status app, etc. 10.Email driver and contractor the following: * Student information sheet * Revised maps, running boards, bus attendance sheets and student list.

How are bus routes determined? Direct vs transfer bus routes Number of students residing in the attendance boundary to justify a direct bus Ride times Capacity on the bus Special needs of students determined by Student Support Services Budget

How are bus seating plans determined? Capacity Grade Gender

Reasons for double runs?  Budget  Shortage of bus operators  Efficiencies

Determining factors in route design Proximity to the school attended Stop Location  Age  Safety

Where do students go when they have a concern about other students or the bus operator? When students have a concern on the bus, it can be addressed either by: parents contacting EIPS Student Transportation or Reporting any issues to the School Administrator

Equipment transported on school buses As per the Alberta Traffic Safety Act, equipment must be secured in order to ensure the safe transportation of students.

Stay Connected Tab  Our Stay Connected Tab located on the student transportation website. This tab lists all the technological options available to assist with the safe and efficient transportation of your child.
