7 Changing Batteries Old battery model size D at 3.6v
Be careful not to break a wire. The battery’s + goes on the red wire. We recommend Lithium Inorganic Battery 7 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

9 Changing Batteries [Warnings]
Before removing a battery, place the magnet to its original location to turn off the unit otherwise the internal fuse may blow. When putting back the cover, pay attention to the orientation otherwise there will be water infiltration. Do not screw back the cover too tight otherwise the case will crack. 9 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

10 Changing Batteries [Voltage]
It is recommended to check the voltage of batteries for the new and old batteries before and after the replacement Measure the voltage before replacing. Measure the voltage once removed. A Newtrax representative may ask for the voltage information when returning a defective product. New batteries should indicate 3.5v and higher 10 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

11 Replacing a node Before going underground, get a map of the node locations. Take great care of noting the number of the old and new nodes you are replacing. When removing the magnet, put it on the back of the node far away from the power switch. For underground, you can use any type of tie-wrap. For the surface, it is recommended to use sun resistant tie-wraps. Use a minimum of two tie-wraps when attaching a node. You can use two more tie-wraps (one attached to the other) over the entire node when you have doubts. 11 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

12 Installing a node [Bootup sequence]
12 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

13 Installing a node To switch between mode, you have 5 seconds to reboot the node after the bootup sequence. In other words, reboot between 5 and 10 seconds after turning it on. The way to distinguish between the mode is the first LED after the bootup sequence. 13 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

14 Installing a node [Installation mode]
The installation mode consist of 2 operations: Scanning: Finding the strongest MineTrax signal Locked: Displaying the signal strength for the node found in step 1. Every 60 seconds, the node re-scan to lock on the strongest signal. Scan next to an installed node then walk away to find the right distance. 14 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

15 Installing a node [Topology]
Gateway Sink point node Nodes 839 80C 81C 15 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

16 Installing a node [Topology]
Slave 80C is slave to 839 Redundancy 81C can connect to 839 16 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

17 Installing a node [Ranging]
Steady green offers redundancy. Blinking green may not be able to connect by skipping a node. 17 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

18 Installing a node The antenna is omnidirectional, meaning that it can communicate in 360 degree. We recommend installing it upside down on the ceiling in the middle of the tunnel attached to a strong anchor. Once you are done, make sure to put the node in normal mode otherwise you won’t be able to range your second node and you will have weird subsequent ranging results. 18 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

19 Installing a node [Tips]
Install a node in straight line if possible. Having a clear line of sight is the preferred way to install a node. 19 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

20 Installing a node [Tips]
You can use existing anchor if they are solid and avoid installing a node behind pipes, rocks, in a hole or other materials. 20 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

21 Installing a node [Tips]
Improve RF communication by trying to use the wall as a bouncing material for the signal. 21 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

22 Installing a node [Tips]
Finding the right location from your neighbor can be very different from the ground than from the air because of tunnel structure and mine RF characteristic. You may find a good location on the ground that is not so great on the ceiling. We recommend ranging the node as close as possible from the final location in the air. The usage of a pole with a node attached in installation mode can speed up the installation because you will climb up only when you know the location is good. 22 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

23 Installing a node [Validation]
Using a telnet session on the gateway, check if you can see the new node (ping) How the node is linked (traceroute) how good is the signal to its neighbor (registertorssistreaming) That information may be needed when talking with a Newtrax representative. 23 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

24 Upgrading The Bootup sequence (5 secs) is scanning for a special upgrading node called SAUD. If a SAUD is found then it waits for its turn to upgrade. You can queue multiple nodes for an upgrade. An upgrade is about 3 minutes and it will show a dimmed green light on both the SAUD and the upgrading node. If no SAUD is found then the node starts normally (either in normal or in installation). 24 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

25 Upgrading [Steps] Step 1: Copying the code to the node (around 2.5 minutes) represented by a dimmed green light. When finished, the SAUD will blink its Red LED rapidly 18 times, in two blocks of 9 blinks. This represents the completion percentage of the upgrade + 1 (i.e = 100%) 25 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

26 Upgrading [Steps] Step 2: Writing the code to the node (up to 1 minutes) represented by no lights. Special case: You may witness a series of red + 4 green blinking followed by a series of green + 4 red blinking. This is not always present while upgrading. This is a very special case of writing critical code to the node . Never reboot the node when in between the two series otherwise the node will be disabled forever. 26 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

27 Upgrading Step 3: IMPORTANT: Once the node is running in normal mode, you need to reboot it again to check if the upgrade is done. If the bootup sequence is executed without restarting the upgrade (about 5 seconds) then the node can be considered upgraded. 27 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,

28 Upgrading [Tips] To reboot the node, we recommend the usage of a strong magnet (like the one found in a MineTrax vehicle modem kit) attached to a long pole. This way you do not need a scissor lift or a ladder to reboot the node’s magnetic switch. 28 | 1 November 2012 Newtrax Technologies Inc NEWTRAX,
