Westward Expansion By: Karis Finch and Nicole Hui

Lewis and Clark’s Expidition Lewis and Clark’s expedition started on May 21 st, 1804. The first portion of the expedition followed the route of the Missouri River. They passed through Kansas City, Omaha, Missouri, Idaho,and Nebraska. Once they reached the Great Plains, they saw the area’s many species.

Reasons to move West. They wanted to look for Gold in California. They also wanted to go to the Great Plains for land.

Present Day states located in the Great Plains These states are: Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Great Plains are also known as the Agricultural Region.

How was Land Different in the North and the South? Smaller farms and manufacturing the cities, It also did not have much slaves. North Large plantations, they had lots of slaves to work on plantations. South

-Louisiana Purchase, Gadsden Purchase, Mexican Cession, and the Oregon Territory. Louisiana Purchase was bought for 15 million by Thomas Jefferson and the got it on August 30, 1803. They bought the Gadsden Purchase for 28 million & they bought it in 1854. The US bought the Mexican Cession for 15 million in 1848. They bought Areas of Western Expansion
