1 Forms of Texts SPI Identify the forms of text (e.g., poems, drama, fiction, nonfiction).

2 What are different types of text?
Poetry-is a kind of writing, usually in verse. Poetry verse is set out in short lines with words put together in rhythm or rhyme or both. Fiction-a literary work based on the imagination and not necessarily on fact.

3 What are different types of text?
Nonfiction-is writing that is based on facts and information. Drama-a literary genre of works intended for the theater. A dramatic work intended for performance by actors on a stage.

4 Types of Fiction Read through the next 6 slides to learn more about the different types of fiction.

5 Fairy Tales - Elements Use of 3’s or 7’s Magic
Royalty (king/castle/princess..) Special words (once upon a time/happily ever after) Battle of good vs. evil A problem and solution Unlikely events Strange or imagined characters/setting Magic or supernatural

6 Fables - Elements Moral/lesson Often have animal characters
Animals are personified (given human traits)

7 Folktales - Elements Often include 3’s
Characters are put through tests Battle of good vs. evil Evil is punished/good is rewarded Happy endings Usually set in the past

8 Myths – Elements Considered an explanation of how the world or something in it came to be Non-human characters (animals or objects) Set at the beginning of the world or in an alternate world Mystery Usually deals with gods and goddesses

9 Legends – Elements Exaggeration Mystery Tale is inspiring
Has some parts based on truth Associated with important event in history Character is usually famous
