Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria Overall Objectives: n Industry promoton and competitive power enhancement of Bulgarian business n SME’s development stimulating, innovation policy activating n Corrupcy failure best conditions via Internet access to Industrial Property (IP) Rights information for customs, courts, police etc.

Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria Background: n BPO protects IP rights - patents, trademarks, industrial designs, new plant varieties and animal breeds n BPO publishes Official Bulletin for all IP rights, maintains patent collections, carries out international exchange of IP rights information n BPO supports databases for IP rights n BPO provides public and State institution services and IP rights information n BPO represents Bulgaria as a member state of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria Patent collections supported by BPO consist of: n - Over 19 000 000 patent specifications on paper from 25 countries and 2 international organizations n - Over 9 000 000 patent specifications on CD- ROM from 31 countries and 2 international organizations

7. Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria Problems: n Electronical IP databases technical unfitness for Internet incorporation. n Electronical IP databases diversity n Electronic IP databases platforms incompatibility (Informix, Oracle)
