A form of writing that tells a story. Fiction is made up, not true. There are several different types of fiction, including:

Novels are long, fictitious¹, prose² stories involving characters and a plot. 1.fictitious: made up. 2.prose: the ordinary form of written language.

Novellas A Novella is a long short story. It has characters and a plot, and ranges between 40 and 100 pages. Novellas are not a common form of fiction, but they have become more popular recently. Several novellas have been made into movies. For example: became

Short Stories Short works of prose fiction, usually between 3 and 30 pages, involving characters and a plot.

Fiction can be broken down into several genres, or categories of writing. These genres include:

The Classics Novels considered to be the best examples of literature

Science Fiction Science fiction is fiction that is usually based on science and space.

Fantasy Fantasy: A genre that uses magic and other supernatural forms as a primary element of plot, theme, and/or setting.

Horror Novels that focus on monsters, ghosts, blood, gore, etc.

Young Adult (YA) Novels that appeal to teen-aged readers.
