1.11: CREATING A PLAYLIST FOR A NOVEL Why do we create playlists? What kind of playlists do you have? What songs/artists are on them? What do you notice about one of my playlists? Common themes? Similar tastes? What does it represent for me? “It’s Tearing Up My Heart” by N*SYNC “(You Drive Me) Crazy” by Britney Spears “I Want It That Way” by Backstreet Boys “What A Girl Wants” by Christina Aguilera “(I Do) Cherish You” by 98˚

PLAYLISTS Again, why do we have playlists, or Pandora stations created with special music? Page 47, Question 1: Based on your class discussions, what are some of the different types of playlists you or your classmates have on your MP3 players? #2: Consider the texts you have read in this unit. What type of music might the main characters include in a playlist?

PAGE 47: QUESTION 3 Now, look back at your double entry journals and character interview you did for homework for your novel. Create a 4-5 song playlist for the main character of your novel. Then, write a short piece summarizing an interview with the character in which the character explains the reasons these songs are included on his/her playlist. Use language from the book that matches your character’s voice. When finished, staple your playlist response to last night’s homework, and turn into tray. If time is left in class, you need to write an entry in your journal. Then you may continue reading your novel.
